• 6 Healthy Habits that Promote Body Love Has there ever been a time where we’ve seen so many people change their face and bodies? Butt implants, BBLs, face fillers, lip fillers…the list goes on and on. While I would never put a person down for wanting to enhance themselves, I think it’s important that we have strong body love before anything else. Otherwise, all the cosmetic changes in the world won’t make us happy. We have to look inward for that happiness. We have to love and appreciate the face and body we have – the life we have! It may not happen overnight, but there are small changes that can be done daily to help you get there. Check out 6 healthy habits that promote body love and start loving on yourself a little more today!6 Healthy Habits that Promote Body Love#1 Monitoring what goes into your bodyHave you heard the saying “your body is a temple?” Well, we need to start treating our bodies like temples. We need to monitor what goes into the temple (AKA our bodies). Nourishing your body with healthy, natural, and organic foods will allow your body to feel its best. When you feel good, you look good. I’m not saying that you must eat healthy 100% of the time, but you do need to monitor and pay attention to what enters your body. To love your body is to protect your body. Things like processed foods, bioengineered ingredients and unhealthy amounts of sugar do much more harm than good.#2 Speaking kindly to yourselfYour self-talk can be extremely powerful. If you’re constantly putting yourself down with the way you think and speak about yourself, you may not have much love for your body. Instead, start speaking kind words to yourself. Compliment your own features. Thank your body for allowing you to stand up or get a workout in.I’ll end with this – if you don’t love your own body, how can you expect someone else to? Speak kindly to yourself and love the body you have, and others will too.#3 Moving your body regularlyAs much as I dread starting a workout (and yes, I’m working on that), I ALWAYS feel amazing after the workout. Moving your body regularly is such a positive form of self-love. This doesn’t have to be a grueling session in the gym either! Take a hike. Try a Pilates class. Ride a bike. There are so many options available to you to help you move your body. Get that movement in on a regular basis and you’ll love and appreciate what your body does for you.#4 Unfollowing social media accounts that make you feel badThere’s nothing wrong with identifying the type of body shape or habits you want and following people for encouragement. Just make sure that encouragement doesn’t turn to envy or disappointment with yourself. It’s a fine line, so be conscious! Whoever you follow on social media, make sure they are motivating and encouraging you to be better.Any accounts that make you feel envious or self-conscious, let them go and click “unfollow”. The goal is to love your body, so anything that takes away from that needs to go!#5 Prioritizing self-care What does self-care look like to you? Getting regular manicures? Booking monthly massages? Staying consistent with physical therapy? Self-care is going to look different for everyone, but once you’ve identified it for yourself, make it a priority. Put the self-care tasks in your calendar and budget for them! You’ll show your body love by taking care of it! Check out 8 Simple Self-Care Habits to Start Now for some ideas.#6 Appreciating the skin you’re inYou only have this one physical body. You only have this one physical life. Appreciate it. You are not here by mistake. Love this life you were blessed with, and that includes your body too. Practice gratitude for your life, your health, and your body on a daily basis. This is one of the best forms of self-love you can give to yourself.I make it a point to start each day with the phrase: “Thank you God for letting me see another day”. What a blessing it is to wake up. Appreciate this life you have. If something about your life or your body makes you unhappy, change it. It’s okay to work to improve, but do it because you love yourself and want to be the best version of YOU!Related: 7 Healthy Habits to Add to Your Daily RoutineLife is so precious and time goes so quickly. We shouldn’t spend our days not having love for our own body. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t work to be healthy or stop setting body goals. I’m saying we need to love and appreciate our bodies, and work to make sure we’re happy and healthy – inside and out! How can you love on yourself a little more today? Essentially, willing something to be based on how you think and act.To manifest something is to think and act as if you have it, before you have it.When you’re not familiar with the concept, it can seem a little out there. Just bear with me and give it a try!In this episode, I’m sharing 9 tips to manifest more money into your life. When you manifest one thing, you can manifest anything!Manifesting requires you to have the ability to visualize things before they happen. When you see it, you can believe it. When you believe it, you can achieve it!Check out Episode 11: The Power of Visualization to Help You Reach Your Goals for more details about the practice of visualization. Here’s a glance at this episode:[02:15] When you start believing something to be true, your brain acts accordingly. • How to Prioritize Managing Money Better Right Now At what point are you finally going to prioritize changing your money situation? When will you decide to stop doing the things that hurt your financial situation? For about 99% of us, there is no winning lottery ticket. There is no Prince Charming sugar daddy. There is no $200,000 salary around the corner. Instead of wishing and hoping for outside sources to help us improve financially, we have to prioritize managing money better ourselves. I hope I didn’t kill your dreams! While I wish you all the lucky success in the world, I do believe we have to put ourselves in a position to succeed. Do good and good comes. Sitting around waiting, while doing nothing in the meantime, is a recipe for disaster. The time is now. Not sure where to start? I’m sharing how you can prioritize managing money better right now, so you can start seeing the results you deserve. How to Prioritize Managing Money Better Right Now It’s more than just money (you’re prioritizing your dream life) I think it’s so important to recognize that when you prioritize managing your money, you’re prioritizing your dream life. You’re focusing on what’s important now, so that you can reach your goals and desires in the future. Managing money isn’t something you do just to do. You do it so that you can make progress towards the end goal. If you’ve never taken the time to think about what you want your life to look like, I want you to dedicate 30 minutes to brainstorming. Picture yourself in a mansion. Picture yourself working on a laptop in front of the ocean. Picture yourself staring at smiling kiddos! What things bring you the most joy? Your dream life should include those things. Once you know what your dream life looks like or includes, you can start working towards it. If you know you want to own a home, you can create a budget that allows you to save for a down payment. The key is to know what you want, that will make managing money a priority naturally. Schedule time to focus on your money For me, if something’s not on my calendar, it’s not happening! The only exception is once something becomes a normal habit and routine. For example, on the last day of every month, I take the time to complete a month end money review. I look at my budget and spending for the month and then create my budget for the next month. At first, I had to remind myself to do this. Now, it’s second nature. If you want to prioritize managing money better, you must build habits and routines to help you do so! Some common money management routines to implement include: Tracking your spending (daily or weekly) Creating a budget at the start of the month Checking in on your accounts every morning Setting money goals These are just a few examples to get you started. Once you’ve determined your money management routines, get them on the calendar! Schedule reminders in your phone. You’ll need that constant reminder until the routines become a normal habit. Work with a coach or get an accountability partnerSometimes, putting your time and money up is the best way to make sure something happens. If you’re at a point where you can’t seem to prioritize managing money on your own, invest in a coach or recruit an accountability partner to hold you to your word. My financial focus coaching program is a 12-week, one-on-one program that starts with creating a budget, introducing clients to my spending tracker, then meeting weekly to ensure the client is sticking to the budget. For 12 weeks straight, my clients are tracking their spending, looking at their money, handling budget wins and setbacks and ultimately learning what it takes to do it on their own. This can be a great resource for building the priority of money management into your life long-term. Align money goals to your values Remember that dream life you thought out in detail? It’s time to act on it! If you want to prioritize managing your money better, you must align your current money goals to that dream life. Each goal that you set and accomplish should be getting you closer to that ideal world. This is how you guarantee you reach that life you desire. As you set money goals or things you want to happen, ask yourself if they align with the end vision of your life. For example, if your dream life consists of being debt free, then setting a goal to obtain a Peloton on credit is not in alignment. Instead, set a goal to save for your Peloton and purchase it in cash. Let go of the excuses  I’m going to deliver some harsh words: Stop blaming outside influences on your current situation. Take ownership and learn the skills you need to manage your money right. Most of us, myself included, didn’t learn finance from school or our parents. That didn’t stop me from figuring it out! That didn’t stop my clients from investing in me to learn what it takes. To make money management a priority, you have to let go of the excuses that kept you weighed down to begin with. No more blaming someone or something else. No more saying “well I don’t know how to budget”. Decide to take ownership and move in the direction of learning what it takes to manage your money. Aren’t you worth it? My final piece of advice is this: you are worth learning how to budget. Your dream life is worth sacrificing right now. Your end goal is worth working towards. I need you to understand that those things are worth it. When you know it’s worth it, you will put in the work. You will learn how to act. You will implement what you’ve learned. Now, go forth and conquer! Related: 7 Hacks to Manage Your Money Better At the end of the day, the ownership of our own situation lies in our own hands! We have to take steps forward. We have to spark change. No one else is going to do it for us – nor should they have to! I hope I’ve convinced you to prioritize your finances and get started on your money management journey. • A Checklist for Creating Your Realistic Budget If you’ve been in the CGS community for a while, then you know I preach this fact: a budget is the number one tool for financial success. I’ll never stop advocating for budgeting because it’s what turned my life around over a decade ago and led me to where I am right now – writing this article in the City Girl Savings office space as a full-time finance coach. That’s right. Budgeting made all those things possible for me. Now, I’m sharing the love.As you may know, I went to school for finance. I got my Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Cal State Northridge. However, while going to school for finance, I was making all the wrong financial moves in my personal life. That’s because there’s SO much more to budgeting and money management than “knowing what to do”. I mean, come on…we all know what to do. Save. Avoid overspending. Skip the debt. However, implementing those things is where it gets hard.I truly believe there is a little bit of an art and science to budgeting. You can’t just list out your bills and call it a day! You have to incorporate a few things to set yourself up for consistency. I’m walking you through a checklist for creating your realistic budget plan, so you can have a day-to-day roadmap for your money. Remember, I create budget plans for clients – if you need one, get started with the Budget Form!A Checklist for Creating Your Realistic Budget#1 Start with your consistent incomeEmphasis on consistent! For your budget to be realistic, we should only leverage money we know for sure is coming in. When creating your budget, start by listing your guaranteed income for the month. This is your starting point and it’s a number that you will refer to once all of your bills and spending are listed. Now, just because you’re only leveraging consistent income in your realistic budget doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a plan in case extra money comes in. If you do make extra money within the month, know what you’re going to do with it before you get it. This will help make sure you don’t spend it all!#2 List out your monthly billsNext step in creating your budget is listing out your monthly bills. These are the things you know come due every month. Things like rent, utility bills, minimum debt payments, etc. Take the time to list out each bill, the bill amount and the due date.Once you have all of your monthly bills listed, add the bill amounts up to get a monthly total. This is another figure that we will come back to.#3 Include monthly amounts for quarterly, semi-annual or annual expensesWhen creating our budget, we can’t forget about the non-monthly expenses! Otherwise, the bill will pop up unexpectedly and throw your budget for a loop! On a separate sheet or in an additional tab on your spreadsheet, make a list of all your quarterly, semi-annual and annual expenses. Include the amount of the expense and the due date.Once you have the list, take each item, and get a monthly number for it. For example, if you spend $120 per year on Amazon prime, the monthly amount would be $10 ($10 x 12 months = $120). Then get a total for all the monthly amounts. We want to add this number to your budget to save for these non-monthly expenses. That way, when the bill rolls around, you already have the amount you need. No harm done to your budget!#4 Allocate income to your variable categoriesNext step in creating your realistic budget is to allocate amounts to your variable spending categories. These are things like gas, dining out, groceries, toiletries – things that we spend money on every month, but they don’t have a set amount or due date. Not sure how much to allocate? You have two options. You can take a look at your past spending in these categories and use that to help you determine an amount. You can also subtract your total expenses (including the monthly amount for non-monthly expenses) from your income. What do you have left? That left over amount should be used to allocate income to these categories.#5 Allocate income to the things you loveMoving right along – we want to make sure your budget includes the things you love. This helps make your budget realistic and easier to stick to over the long haul. Just like you allocated income to variable spending categories, you’ll want to allocate income to the things you love.Don’t be disappointed if you can’t spend as much as you’d want to on these things. There will come a time where you can. For now, we need to make sure you can enjoy yourself on a budget, but in moderation as you work towards other goals.#6 Everything else goes to your goal (or goals)If, after steps 2-5 are completed, you have any income left over, you’ll want to allocate it to your most pressing goals. This could include saving for emergencies, paying off debt, saving for a specific purchase, investing, or any other goal. Again, you may not be able to contribute much to your goal, but anything is better than nothing!Tada! You now have a realistic budget that includes everything it needs to!Related: 4 Rules to Follow When Setting Up Your BudgetIf you can follow the six steps listed above when creating your budget, you’ll have a realistic plan you can follow. You may not like or appreciate all the numbers, but once you get into a rhythm with budgeting, you’re free to tweak and change to your liking. The most important thing to remember is that you must earn more than you spend. If your spending exceeds your income, that’s a problem. When it comes to creating your budget, where do you struggle? Have you left out any of the steps above? Drop a comm … A Checklist for Creating Your Realistic BudgetRead More »

  • 6 Small Tweaks to Your Day to Feel Amazing Have you ever had one of those days where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed and the entire day seems to go wrong? On the flip side, you can wake up in a great mood and that lasts throughout the rest of your day. Any other time, it’s just a normal day. Well, not anymore! You can do things throughout your day to make sure you feel positive and amazing! We only get this one life, so making sure we feel good as much as possible should be the goal! I’m sharing 6 small tweaks to your day to feel amazing! Sometimes, it just takes small changes to have an amazing impact. 6 Small Tweaks to Your Day to Feel Amazing #1 Wake up to something soothing I’m sorry, but there’s NO way I can wake up to a blaring alarm. Not only does that wake me up in a panic, but it naturally brings feelings of panic and rushing. Thankfully, my internal alarm clock wakes me up before my phone’s alarm. However, I always set my phone alarm just in case! When my alarm does wake me up, it’s the soothing sounds of bells. I also don’t set my volume very high, so the sound of the bells is loud enough to wake me up, but not loud enough to leave me feeling panicked. Waking up to something soothing sets the tone for the day. Everyone’s preference is different, so play around with different sounds. Bells, birds chirping, waves crashing, or any other soothing sound will beat a blaring alarm. #2 Take a different route on your commute I’m a Virgo. That means I’m structured and value routine. In terms of commuting, it usually means taking the same route wherever I go. If I’m in a hurry, I’ll be taking that routine route without even thinking about it. If I have time, I’ll try to switch up the route to whatever destination I’m going to. This makes me feel like I’m doing something different – even though I’m going to a familiar place. Changing up my normal route gives me a chance to notice different things. I can’t say this is a fact, but it definitely makes me feel sharper! If you commute to work or drive to the same place often, try taking a different route. It will make you feel like you incorporated something new and different into your day! #3 Give someone a compliment You’ve received a compliment before – how did it make you feel? Probably good, right?! Well, imagine if you can make someone else feel good. It seems like such a natural thing to keep to yourself, but spreading a little kindness can make you feel amazing. Not to mention, you never know what someone else is going through and how your compliment can pick them up. The next time you notice someone’s outfit, smile, car, or anything else, take the time to let them know. Giving someone a compliment can make you feel good all day long. I don’t recommend complimenting someone to get something in return. But, when you feel compelled to share the kind words, please do so. #4 Open the blinds or curtainsI absolutely love natural light. There’s just something about the way the sun lights up a room that makes me want to smile! Whether you’re working from home, getting tasks done or in the office, make it a point to open the blind or draw up the curtains! The natural light will bring an instant surge of energy and leave you feeling great! The City Girl Savings office space doesn’t have any windows. So, I did the next best thing! We (meaning my boyfriend with me watching) installed bright LED lights in the office space. It’s not as great as the sun’s light, but it does make the room bright. #5 Step outside just to soak in the sun and fresh air Just like natural light can make you feel great in your space, stepping outside and soaking in the sunlight and fresh air can make you feel great in your body! I love taking a nice deep breath in during my morning walk. The air is so crisp and clear – almost like an instant energy surge when it hits my lungs! Any chance you get during the day to step outside and breathe in the sun and air, take it! You don’t have to be outside long to reap the benefits that it brings. Going on a quick walk during your lunch break can be a great way to get energized to finish out your workday! #6 End your day with reflection I recently listened to “The Gap and The Gain” on Audible and one of the ways to “live in the gain” is to end your day with 3 accomplishments. No matter how big or small, listing out your accomplishments puts you in a state of pride and gratitude. It allows you to fall asleep on a positive note. I’m still working this into my nighttime routine, but it has been super helpful with waking up happier. When you think about the 3 things you accomplished for the day, you’re literally reflecting on your day! You’re running through the day in your mind to find your accomplishments. Reflecting on the day is a great way to close out the day and start fresh when you wake up the next day. Related: 7 Bright Ways to Start a Positive Day The beauty of each of these tweaks is that you can do them as early as today! It takes no time at all to get some of these tweaks implemented and start feeling the results! If you find yourself going through the motions every day, it’s time to switch up your routine! Add one (or some) of these tweaks to your day and you’ll feel better instantly! Do you have any daily habits or rituals that help make your day better? Have you tried implementing any of the tweaks listed above? Drop a comment … 6 Small Tweaks to Your Day to Feel AmazingRead More »
