Beauty How-Tos: DIY Body Scrubs

Scrubs for your face and body do wonders! Not only do they help remove dead skin cells, they leave your skin feeling much softer than it did before you used the scrub. The great things about body scrubs is that you can do them yourself! You don’t have to shell out cash for a high-quality scrub. The CGS Team is sharing a few simple recipes for creating your own organic body scrub at home!

Vanilla Brown Sugar Coconut Scrub

Coconut oil is one of the best natural ingredients for your skin (and just about everything else). The product starts in a hard texture but glides on your skin like oil. It’s great for adding moisture to dry skin, combine that with brown sugar to exfoliate and you have a great scrub on your hands. Adding a little vanilla to the mix brings a yummy fragrance that lasts throughout the day!

½ cup of coconut oil

½ cup of brown sugar

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl. Apply to your body like a gentle wash and rinse.

Lavender Lemon Sea Salt Scrub

Salt retains water, which does wonders for dry skin. Sea salt is the ideal scrub ingredient because it’s significantly finer than regular table salt and provides a great density for exfoliating our skin. Combining lavender (whether dried or in oil form) provides extra moisturizing properties. Lastly, including lemon or other citrus zest makes for an invigorating body scrub experiences!

1 cup of fine sea salt

½ cup of Vitamin E oil

1 tbsp. of dried lavender OR 5-15 drops of lavender oil

Combine the first two ingredients in a bowl and mix together until the ingredients take on a slushy form. Combine the tbsp. of dried lavender and stir slowly. Save the ingredients in a glass jar or container. Use in place of your body wash in the bath or shower.

Sugar Mint Lip Scrub

You can’t forget to exfoliate your lips! Although sensitive, your lips need to be removed of dead skin cells every once in a while. A gentle scrub that includes sugar will easily do the trick. Combine with mint extract for long-lasting moisture, and a yummy taste!

½ cup of fine sugar or granulated sugar that has been run through a food processor

1-3 drops of mint extract (depending on how strong you prefer the mint)

Once your sugar is fine enough, add the mint extract drops and stir.  Place a small amount of the paste-like scrub on your lips and rub together. Wash (or lick) off the remaining mixture.

Who needs Sephora?! Ok, we’re over-exaggerating, but it’s always nice to know that you can create your own beauty and skin care products with low cost ingredients that are already in your home!
