8 Pieces to Pack for a Summer Vacation

When I think of summer, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside! The thought of warm weather, living pool and beach side, and enjoying some fun cocktails makes me so excited!

Summer is most people’s favorite season, including mine. While it was a favorite back in grade school because it meant no more homework and classes, it’s still a favorite now.

Summer no longer means no more work – still have to make the money, but it’s a fun time of year. It’s when most people take a nice vacation. If you have plans for traveling this upcoming summer season, or any future summer season, you will want to appropriately pack for a summer vacation.

There are a few key pieces that every summer lady must have handy. I’m sharing 8 pieces to pack for a summer vacation, so you will always be ready for what the trip has in store!

One more thing, I just returned from my 7-day Caribbean cruise, and each of the items below came in handy!

8 Pieces to Pack for a Summer Vacation Include…

#1 A swimsuit or two

Don’t roll your eyes at me! You will want to pack a couple of swimsuits for your summer vacation, even if you don’t plan on going to the pool or beach. Pack in options, a one and two-piece set will do nicely.

Trust me, it’s better to have your own swimsuits packed than to have to rely on finding a mall or store wherever you are headed.

#2 A straw hat

We’ve all seen those Instagram photos of fashion bloggers in their straw hats with cute sayings. You can be one of those ladies!

A straw hat is Instagram-worthy and will help keep the harsh sun rays away from that gorgeous face of yours.

#3 A breezy dress

The great thing about packing in a breezy dress is that it can be dressed up or down! You can wear it with cute flats during the day or go for a more elegant look at night with heels and jewelry.

I have a trip to Turks and Caicos coming up this September, and I found the perfect breezy dress (versatile for day and night) from Express. Here’s a picture of it (P.S. I purchased mine in white):

#4 Platform sandals
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the night-time outings on vacation are more relaxed. Super high heels are rarely a requirement.

A good pair of platform sandals will be comfortable and appropriate enough for whatever the night has in store.

#5 Leather flats

I love pieces that have a dual purpose. Before my cruise, I went into Steve Madden looking for leather flats that would be beach appropriate (no straps), but also indoor friendly.

If you are lucky enough to find a pair of leather flats that do that for you, then scoop them up! Here are the ones I purchased from Steve Madden:

#6 Relaxed denim
You may think that denim will be too hot for a summer vacation, but boyfriend jeans will come in handy. I wore a pair one night on my cruise, and I’m happy I had them!

Even if you don’t end up wearing them, packing a pair of jeans can be a life saver if you do end up needing them.

#7 High-waisted shorts

A good pair of high-waisted shorts can make your day! Not only are they comfortable, but they go with a variety of pieces. You can pair them with your bikini top or a flowy blouse.

Nowadays, you can find high-waisted shorts in a variety of colors, textures and patterns. I have some with island trees, flamingos and polka-dots!

#8 A light sweater

Similar to denim, you may think a sweater will be too hot for your summer vacation but remember that you won’t be outside the entire time!

Most places have the air conditioning on high during the summer, so if you are inside for a few hours, it may get chilly. Having that light sweater will keep you comfortable.
