For some employers, dress code guidelines can put a damper on your wardrobe. Dressing should be a fun and creative experience. For those who can wear colorful clothing, I suggest wearing fun patterns. Never anything too loud or busy for the workplace, but a striped or polka dot certainly adds flair to any of your office wardrobe essentials!
Play with different cuts and styles of clothing. I’m going to give you some great essentials that will have you looking chic every day of the work week. You really can’t go wrong with these 8 office wardrobe essentials! Fair warning, I will be shamelessly plugging the store Express. Their work clothes are amazing!
Office wardrobe essentials
Slacks or Trousers
Having a great pair of slacks will make dressing for work simple. Shop around see what kinds of lengths and cuts you like that fit your body type. The columnist pant from Express are fitted and hit the ankle for a sleek look. Also, checkout the article Chic Pants to Wear to Work for a few more ideas.
Pencil skirts
Pencil skirts are definitely office wardrobe essentials because they are perfectly appropriate for the office, and come in a variety of different lengths. They look great on any shape or size and pull in the waist when paired with a button-down or blouse. Add a great pair of shoes and you have an effortless outfit.
Button-down shirts
Whether its cotton or a polyester crepe material, having a well-fitting button-down is a must-have. I would suggest starting with black and white as basics and then getting colors that make your complexion pop. You also can’t go wrong with patterns and prints! Express has two different types of work shirts called the Portofino and the Essential shirt. They refresh the patterns and colors every season to keep you looking great.
Blazers
Having a go-to blazer in your wardrobe for business meetings and interviews is very important. It pulls a professional look together so well. It also goes with almost anything and can be worn casually at your favorite happy hour spot after work. Blazers come in a variety of colors and fits, so don’t limit yourself to just one. Go-to Dress
My go-to dress is a black fit and flare with a small v-neck opening at the top. I add my versatile blazer and some heels and I’m good to go. I suggest getting something that looks great on you in a neutral color or black. Something that goes with everything that you can throw on when you don’t feel like wearing pants. Fit and flare cuts are great because they accentuate the upper body and waist, then flow down to the knees or mid-thigh.
Jewels
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, so the saying goes. Jewelry should always add a nice sparkle but never be overbearing. Wearing delicate necklaces and layering two of them can add that little shine you need. Watches are also a great way to add some wrist candy. I prefer a classic metal watch I have one in silver gold and rose gold. I interchange them to match what I’m wearing to the office that day.
Heels
A good pair of comfortable heels will take you a long way, especially in the workplace. I would go for a lower heel size if you have to be on your feet all day. Ankle boots and wedges are also a great alternative to pumps. Flats
With so many choices of flats available now, it’s so hard to decide! I usually get one of each as they all have different looks. I would suggest getting a pair of loafers, oxfords, and ballerinas. For all-day comfort at work, invest in some good gel insoles.
