It’s definitely a goal for each of the ladies of the CGS Team, and there’s no doubt that some form of “living healthier” is on your goal list as well.  We’ve previously shared 5 foods that kill your metabolism, but what about the foods that help you tame that tummy? Combining the 6 foods below in your balanced diet, as well as exercising regularly will leave you with a flat tummy faster and longer-lasting!

6 foods for a flat tummy

Cucumbers

Any food that helps prevent bloating is a friend of ours, and cucumbers do just that! Thanks to a high water content of 96% and the antioxidant quercetin, cucumbers are the perfect snack to combat bloating and produce a flatter stomach. The veggie is extremely versatile too! Try it in a salad or as a snack with hummus.

Almonds

Almonds are truly versatile in the benefits they pack, and they are delicious! Just a daily dose of almonds (about 23) gives your body the right amount of protein, fiber and magnesium it needs to spike your energy, build and maintain your muscles, and regulate your blood sugar.  According to Yale Professor of Medicine David Katz, “A stable blood sugar level helps prevent cravings that can lead to overeating and weight gain.”

Chili Peppers

Not everyone has a taste for spicy foods, but chili peppers provide much more than a spicy kick. Chili peppers contain capsaicin (the antioxidant that gives them their heat) which helps kick start your metabolism and works to prevent gaining belly fat. Studies show that people who eat capsaicin-rich foods had less cravings for salty, fatty foods. Chili peppers are a perfect stir-fry ingredient!

Ginger

The great thing about the ginger root is that it can be consumed in many forms. Make a ginger tea with hot water and ½ teaspoon of ground ginger.  You can also include it as an ingredient in many Asian-inspired recipes.  Not only does ginger help ease gastro and stomach problems, it has been used as a natural remedy for reducing bloating for centuries.

Salmon

There is no denying that seafood is excellent for your body. Particularly fatty fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel provide a huge amount of omega-3 fatty acids, which help promote fat burning and make your metabolism work for you. Salmon is a great ab-friendly protein, as it helps slow digestion and fights cravings in between meals.  Try to incorporate salmon or other fatty fish into your meal plan at least 2-3 days a week.

Yogurt

We’ve all heard that probiotics are good for us, but do we know why? Probiotics, which are found in most yogurts, help balance microflora (which is bad bacteria in your gut) and prevent bloating.  Yogurt also contains an insanely high amount of protein, which your body needs to build and maintain your muscles. The more muscle you have, the more weight you lose when you are in rest form. Greek yogurt is a great way to go. Eat it as a desert or include it in your favorite dips or recipes.
