4 Fashion Problems Tailors Can Solve

How many of us have sent our favorite pair of jeans to the goodwill grave because the zipper broke? Anyone have to wear heels with that gorgeous maxi dress they bought because it’s too long? These are just some of the fashion problems tailors can solve! Usually, people think of a tailor only for important pieces like an evening gown or something that costs a lot of money.

In fact, some women forget about the tailor altogether because men frequent tailors much more often. Think again ladies! Tailors can solve a variety of your fashion problems quickly and affordably. Keep reading to find out a few common fashion problems that can be fixed by a tailor.

Zip It

Whether it’s on a skirt, on a pair of jeans, or on a dress, a broken zipper can be the end of any great piece. Don’t trash it! Take it to a tailor and give your clothes the extended life they deserve. Tailors can fix the snagged zipper, or replace it altogether. If your zipper is missing, take it to a tailor to be replaced.

Ah-hem

Long hemlines can be annoying. It doesn’t matter if you are short or tall, we’ve all experience a great outfit that didn’t fit. Nothing ruins a great look faster than a dragging dress or pair of pants, or worse – highwaters! Take them to your local tailor and your pieces can be fixed to your exact height.

Take-In or Out

Maybe you lost some weight. Maybe you gained some, I’ve been there, so I won’t judge. Whatever the case, you can take the waistline of any bottom or dress in or out about four inches. If you have a few great pieces you can’t part with, this is a great option to keeping them in your wearable wardrobe.

Get Bead-y

You know those little plastic baggies that come attached to our perfectly beaded or buttoned pieces? Keep them! If it goes through a rough wash cycle and loses one or two buttons, run to the tailor. He or she can fix it right up! I suggest you keep all of those button or bead baggies in a single place. That way you can always refer back to them!

What I will say about any tailor is do your research. No two are the same and although they should all be able to perform these services, it’s the quality you should concern yourself with. Ask around to friends and family. Look them up online see what people say about them. Once you find a tailor that suits your needs (no pun intended), keep them on speed dial! Do you visit a tailor? 1. Thank you for mentioning that the tailors can repair or replace the snagged zipper. I can’t fit into my wedding gown since I’ve gained weight, and I’d like to add a zip. I’ll have the tailor build a zip for my wedding gown so I can wear it again.

  2. Thank you for explaining how you can go to the tailor to help with taking in your clothes if you’ve lost weight. I’ve recently lost a lot of weight and none of my clothes are really fitting right now. It seems like a good idea to get them tailored rather than buying a whole new wardrobe.

  3. I like how you mentioned giving your clothing the prolonged lifespan they deserve by taking it to a tailor. My boyfriend bought new pants without fitting them that’s why when we got home, he realized it’s not fitted in him so he wants to alter them. I’ll keep in mind to find a men’s tailoring service as soon as possible to have it fixed.
