Revamp Your Skincare Routine

It’s no secret that the skincare habits you start while young have a huge effect on your skin as you age. There are certain skin necessities that help your skin stay wrinkle-free, blemish-free, and radiant for as long as possible. The CGS Team is sharing a few skincare habits that you should start as soon as possible. Five extra minutes a day to revamp your skincare routine can promote years of healthy-looking skin. No Botox needed with these tricks!

Here’s How To Revamp Your Skincare Routine

Use Sunscreen

If there is one thing you need to do, its wear sunscreen. Regardless of your skin color, sunscreen helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays, which still exist on a cloudy day. We’re not talking the by-the-pool sunscreen. There are plenty of moisturizers that are packed with SPF and provide the benefits of a moisturizer with the benefits of sunscreen.

According to an Australian study, people who wore sunscreen every day for four years didn’t appear to age at all. Pick up a moisturizer that contains an SPF of 30 or higher, and your skin will thank you four years from now.  If you aren’t familiar with SPF, read SPF Basics.

Don’t Forget Your Neck

Can you imagine having firm, radiant skin with a turkey-like, sagging neck? If you forget to take care of your neck and only focus on your face, that’s exactly what will happen.

When you are applying your moisturizer in the morning and at night, make sure you get your neck as well. The same effect the moisturizer has on your face will also take place in your neck. An aging neck with a youthful face is a sure sign of incomplete skincare.

Never Go To Bed with Make-up On

We’ve all been there. A late night out that leads to an immediate hit-the-bed reaction, sans face washing. Didn’t you wake up with gross-feeling skin, or worse, a newly forming pimple? Never go to bed without washing your face, even if you don’t have make-up on.

Studies show that pollutants in the air can actually stick to your face and contribute to aging. Washing your face at night and pairing it with an overnight repair serum can help your skin regenerate. It certainly can’t do its job if you skip the make-up remover.

Keep Your Eyes Young

Similar to your neck, eyes are also forgotten, especially when you’re young. The skin around your eyes is so thin that exposure to the sun or years of pulling can result in fast wrinkles.

Sometimes face moisturizers can be too heavy for your eyes, so get yourself a cream designed specifically for your eyes. We love Clinique’s Superdefense Age Defense Eye Cream SPF 20 because it is gentle enough to wear on your eyes and helps protect the sensitive skin from UV rays.

Invest in the Best

If there’s one place you don’t want to go cheap, it’s on skincare. We aren’t saying that you should spend a fortune on products, but do your research. There are some great products (Olay especially) that are reasonably priced.

Invest in good quality products. Just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean that the quality is there. Make an appointment with a dermatologist to know exactly what you need for your skin. The basics for everyone should be:

  • Cleansing Face Wash
  • Moisturizer with SPF
  • Eye Cream
  • Exfoliating Scrub (for weekly use)
  • Repairing Night Cream

You can also include facial serums or oils as well for added effects. Make sure you keep your skin type in mind when purchasing products. If you have oily skin, make sure your products are non-comedogenic and oil-free. Also, there are facial oils designed to treat acne. Check out the article Oils, Oils, Oils to learn more!
