Simple Cold Brew Ingredients

Creating your batch of cold brew coffee is easier than you think. Of course, there are some steps involved but that’s no different than making your favorite dish! All you’ll need is a mason jar (whatever size you’d like, depending on how much you drink), ground coffee, water, and a sieve.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with what a sieve is, it’s a utensil consisting of a wire or plastic mesh held in a frame, used for straining solids from liquids, for separating coarser and finer particles, or for reducing soft solids to a pulp. In this case, you will use it drain any coffee pulp that’s left over so it won’t go into your final brew.

Start the Day Before

To make fresh cold brew coffee it all begins the day before you want to enjoy it. That’s right! In order to make it fresh you have to mix all the ingredients together the night before so all the flavors can sit.

In your jar, stir 1 ½ cups of water and 1 ½ cups of ground coffee, then place it in the refrigerator, being sure that you covered the mixture over night for 12 hours. The next day, strain your beverage twice through the sieve.

Next take the cup of your choice (preferably the one you will use to drink from) and add ice, the concentrated coffee, and cream or milk to taste. Voila! You have created your very own cold brew coffee!

We told you it’s easier than you thought. Have you ever tried making your own cold brew coffee? If so, what did you do? How did you like the flavoring of your coffee compared to the local coffee shop? Making your own cold brew beverage gives you the opportunity to choose how much of what you’d like to add compared to just getting a surprise from the coffee shop.
