How to Give Yourself a Spa Facial at Home

I think it’s safe to say we can all agree that getting facials are one of the most relaxing ways to spend our time. Besides the fact that they are relaxing, they can also give your skin amazing results. Why spend too much money at a spa for a facial, when you can give yourself one in the comfort of your own home? To make it even better, invite your close friends over and make a party of it!

Administering a facial to yourself is actually easier than you think; all you need is your choice of mask and your favorite bottle of wine. A few candles to set the relaxing mood can help as well. I’m sharing a few ways you can give yourself a spa facial at home.

Plan your products and your facial
The first thing you should know in preparing to give yourself an at-home facial is what products you will need before you get started. What type of face mask will you be using? Will you be creating your own face mask? Don’t forget any ingredients you will need to administer the facial (cucumber anyone?)

Another part of the planning process will be your location and time. You will want to schedule your DIY spa facial when no one else is home – if you live alone, you’re covered. Light some candles to get the mood going, poor a glass of wine, and take a bath before diving in to your facial.

You need boiled water

Once you have all of your products hand and you’re ready to start your spa facial, boil some water in a pot. The boiling water will provide steam, which helps open your pores and loosen any dead skin you may have. Be very careful when leaning your face into the steam of water because it will be extremely hot. Keep about 12 inches away and allow the steam to settle onto your skin for about 3-5 minutes.

Apply your products

After letting your skin enjoy the warm steam, the next step couple of steps involve you touching your face. Since your pores are now open, begin applying your cleanser. Whatever cleanser you find works best for your skin type, massage the cleanser into your skin, so you can remove any impurities from your pores. A clogged pore is one of the major reasons for breakouts and irritations!

After rinsing off all the cleanser, now it’s time to exfoliate any dead skin cells that are lingering around. Exfoliating helps smooth your skin and leaving it feel softer and less dull. Rub the exfoliating scrub onto your face in a circular motion and then rinse off. Check out some amazing, exfoliating organic masks.

To help soothe your eye area after exfoliating, simply cut 2 slices of cucumber (one for each eye) and apply over your eyes while you lay on your back. The cucumber will reduce any puffiness and dark circles around your eyes. Leave the cucumber on your eyes for about 15-20 minutes. Next, before laying down with the cucumber, apply a moisturizer to your face and neck giving you a small massage all over. Look for a moisturizer that is specially formulated for your skin type, whether it is oily, dry or prone to blemishes.

Re-creating the professional experience at home is fun and affordable. Don’t get discouraged with the idea of not knowing what you’re doing, instead have fun and play around with the different types of methods and masks. What types of facials do you like?
