Blackheads are like really bad dreams that you can’t wake up from! Most of the time they are unavoidable and you never know when one (or many) will appear. Blackheads affect everyone at some point in time, including the ladies of the CGS Team.
Because of this, we are sharing a few tips on getting rid of those bad boys! Most of the time blackheads are caused by our facial hair follicles being clogged by the natural oils of our skin. Blackheads are a mild form of acne that typically can be seen on the face, but they can also appear on the back, chest, neck, arms, and shoulders. Checkout a few ways to treat, and prevent future blackhead breakouts!
How to get rid of blackheads
The Quick Fix
The worst feeling is having a blackhead appear hours before a special engagement. For fast results try using a combination of toothpaste and salt. Mix a teaspoon of salt and toothpaste together. It’s important to use regular salt compared to sea salt, and regular toothpaste compared to gel toothpaste. Wash your face, but do not pat dry.
While your face is still damp apply the combination to the areas with blackheads. Rub in a circular motion for a minute and after that wash your face clean with warm water. It’s a natural exfoliate that will give you clearer, fresher skin in just minutes!
A Natural Astringent
No cleanser or Witch Hazel to help take away the blackhead? Not to worry, simply use lemon juice to help reduce their appearance. Blackheads are caused by clogged pores that lack oxygen; lemon juice helps shrink your pores with its essential astringent. All you need is one lemon and few cotton balls.
Wash your face clean, and pat dry. Squeeze your lemon into a small cup or bowl, and slightly damp the cotton ball into the lemon juice. Apply lemon juice to the targeted areas, and if you have sensitive skin we recommend adding a little bit of water to your lemon juice to dilute it. Once you’ve applied the lemon juice, use a moisturizer to help lock in your natural oils. If you’ll be in the sun make sure to apply sunscreen to protect your face from the sun rays.
Pore Strips Work
Pore strips like Bioré’s Deep Cleansing Pore Strips ($7.99) or Boscia’s Pore Purifying Black Strips ($28) help get rid of blackheads by actually pulling them out of your pores. These strips work best when your pores are slightly loosened up. Try using them after you have washed your face with a salicylic acid face wash. Use them only as needed. One use will often help remove a majority of the blackheads, and the evidence will be visible in the pore strip!
Like any health or skin problem, the underlying issue could be in your daily routines. Make sure you drink enough water and eat natural foods. Often times the issue will clear up on its own when you are making an effort to be healthier. Remember to always wash and moisturize your face daily.
