Starting your morning right is essential to a productive day. It may sound cliché, but there’s a lot of truth behind it. Studies have shown that successful people start their day with positive habits that translate throughout the rest of the day. We’ve all woken up 20 minutes late, rushed to get ready, and felt like the entire day wasn’t as good as it could have been. Avoid that stress by maximizing the time you have each morning. Try these 8 tips to make the most of your morning routine and I guarantee you’ll see a difference.
8 ways to improve your morning routine
Pick your outfit out the night before
Doesn’t it always seem like you have nothing to wear when you are deciding on an outfit at the last minute? Picking your next day’s outfit out the night before will minimize the decision-making time you take in the morning so you can focus on other things. If you always seem to have a fashion faux-pas slowing you down, read our Simple Style Tips to Always Arrive on Time.
Stretch a little
Stretching wakes up the muscles in your body making you more limber and willing to get out of bed. Something I know can be very difficult for some of us! Right when you get out of bed, stretch your arms, waist and legs. If possible, yoga would be an amazing practice to knock out in the mornings.
Drink lemon water
This is one of the best things you can drink in the morning. Aside from coffee, which I would have as an Iv drip if it was possible. Your body will thank you because it’s kick starts your metabolism and does wonders for the skin. The trick is to drink it warm as soon as you wake up.
Skip the snooze button
As great as an extra few snoozes may seem, it interrupts the natural sleep rhythm by interrupting the R.E.M. cycle. If you do fall back to sleep during snoozes, this can make you feel drowsier than you would be if you hadn’t hit the button in the first place.
Open the blinds
Unlike my vampire self who hates light in the morning, opening the curtains in the morning and getting some light in your room will wake you up and brighten your spirit. Natural light is a great energy booster and can help your body feel like it’s time to get up. Keeping your room dark when you should be “up and at ‘em” will make that process much harder.
Turn it up
Make a morning mix of upbeat music to get you moving and put you in a good mood. This will come in handy on days where you feel more tired than usual.
Put social media on hold
Technology rules us all! Checking your phone in the morning, the moment you wake up, keeps you in bed longer and can also trigger stress. The texts, snaps, and emails can wait a little while longer. Before you even think of checking your phone, follow some of the tips above like stretching, having a cup of hot lemon water, and opening the blinds.
The grand finale
Now this might seem silly, but the last tip I have is to make a morning routine and stick to it. It keeps you organized and less stressed throughout the day which will keep your mind clear for what’s really important – like that hot cup of joe waiting for you in the kitchen or on the counter at Starbucks, I don’t judge.
