When you’re trying to watch your figure, finding the right meal while dining out can be difficult. Not only do restaurants leave the calorie counts off the menu, it’s just plain tempting to know you have your pick of any tasty meal the restaurant offers! If you can resist the temptation to order the biggest plate of pasta, there are some waist-friendly foods offered by most restaurants. The CGS Team is sharing 5 waist-friendly foods and meal options served at most restaurants. If you want to avoid the “low-calorie” section on the menu, this list is for you!
Chicken
The great thing about chicken is that it’s protein-packed and contains little-to-no carbs, with the exception of fried chicken. If the restaurant you are dining at offers a chicken dish, sans fried, you can get a good taste and a good waist option! Grilled chicken is the best way to go. Sub rice or carb-loaded pasta for steamed veggies. You can always get a side of pico de gallo or salsa to help with some flavor.
Salmon
Seafood is always a healthier protein alternative, but the benefits you get from salmon can’t be ignored! Salmon contains a large amount of protein, as well as omega-3 fatty acids which help burn fat. Grilled salmon and veggies is a great way to go. Salmon that is made in sauce could contain more fat than you think. Veggies are always a great option when you’re watching your weight. As tasty as they are, a side of mashed potatoes could have upwards of 500 calories!
Sirloin Steak
Sirloin steak is usually the leanest cut of steak offered by most restaurants. If you need your red meat, this is a good selection. Make sure you request the chef prepare the steak without seasoned butter, which can add extra fat. Opting for fresh vegetables like zucchini or roasted spaghetti squash offer make for a very nutritious (and tasty) meal.
Egg-White Omelet
Going out for breakfast? Or maybe your restaurant of choice serves breakfast all day? Regardless, an egg-white omelet is a great option when you’re watching your figure! Egg-whites contain all the protein of normal eggs, without the extra fat and cholesterol. Combining that with delicious veggies like spinach, onions, and tomatoes, you have a scrumptious meal! Instead of regular cheddar cheese, sub swiss cheese which is still tasty without the extra fat.
Salad
Proceed with caution when ordering salads. You may think that you are going super healthy, but the dressing and certain ingredients can kill it all! Avoid salads that contain fried meat, and when selecting your dressing, vinaigrette is always better than cream-based dressings. Load up on the veggies while you’re at it!
Going out to eat doesn’t mean you have to break your diet! Just be knowledgeable and mindful of the ingredients of your meal, and you’ll be good-to-go!
