15 Random Acts of Kindness to Try Today

It doesn’t take much to be a kind person. However, that small effort can change somebody’s day for the better – making it a huge impact. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and forget to take a moment and be kind to someone.

Studies show that being kind to others results in you being a happier person. Who doesn’t want to be a happier person? The CGS Team is sharing 15 random acts of kindness for you to try today. These acts of kindness take minimal effort on your part, but make a huge impact on others (and maybe even you).

#1 Give a compliment
Whether you are at work, school or out and about, the next person you see with a nice shirt, a great smile, or a trendy haircut, compliment them! We often think about the good things we see on others, but don’t take the time to say anything. Change that today.

#2 Think of a friend who has lost someone

If you have a friend who has lost someone special in their life, shoot them a text and let them know you are thinking of them.

#3 Offer to assist a busy friend

If your friend or family member is having a rough day, offer to assist in any way you can. Maybe you can pick up their child from daycare, or grab their dry cleaning on the way home. Offering to assist has just as big of an impact as the actual assisting!

#4 Buy a coffee for the person behind you

Heading to your favorite coffee shop for a midday pick-me-up? When purchasing your coffee, offer to cover the cost of the coffee for the person behind you. It’s a surefire way to brighten up someone’s day.

#5 Send an email to your special someone

When we’re busy at work, it can be refreshing to get a quick “I love you” or “I’m thinking of you” from a special someone. Be the one sending that message to brighten up your significant other’s day.

#6 Send a “thank you” card

If there is someone in your life who has made a difference for you, or helped your situation, show your appreciation by mailing them a thank you card. It will not be expected, but certainly welcomed.

#7 Walk dogs at the local shelter

Kindness doesn’t have to be person-to-person. Animals need love too! Make a difference, and a few furry friends, by volunteering at your local pet shelter.

#8 Stick up for someone who isn’t around
While the kindness may never get to the person, sticking up for someone who is not there to stick up for themselves shows great character, and shuts down gossipers!

#9 Donate to charity

Instead of listing your old clothes on Poshmark or eBay, donate them to Goodwill or Salvation Army. There are people out there who will benefit from your donation.

#10 Help a budding entrepreneur

Loan money to an entrepreneur through Kiva. A small investment can change the lives of the families who receive them, and 97% of the loans are paid back.

#11 Make a helpful introduction

Sometimes we don’t always put two and two together. The next time a friend or co-worker says they are struggling in a particular area, think through your mental rolodex and make an introduction to help get them the guidance they need.

#12 Bring donuts for your co-workers

Donuts, especially when purchased by the dozen, aren’t very expensive. Treat your teammates with a sweet snack, and happy faces will fill the office!

#13 Leave a big tip

The next time you receive stellar service at a restaurant, let your tip show for it.

#14 Smile

The easiest act of kindness is smiling at those who cross your path. A smile can brighten up someone’s day, especially when it’s not expected.

#15 Support your friends’ endeavors

If your friend or co-worker has a side gig, show support. You can comment on their blog, purchase what they’re selling, or leave a good review.

Being kind to those you know and those you don’t know can make the world a better place.
