5 Décor Items Your Apartment Needs

Nothing is more exciting than getting an apartment (or house) that is all yours! The fact that you can decorate it how you see fit certainly helps justify that excitement. We have recently added a Lifestyle section to City Girl Savings, which includes décor and DIY ideas. We’ve done some major research (and learned from our own experience) to help determine 5 items that can take your apartment to the next level! These 5 décor items are inexpensive and really make a home “home”.

Eye-Catching Lights

According to designer Ron Marvin, “Lights are the most amazing way of making a home feel warm and welcoming. Using several lamps throughout a space creates a warm glow in the room.” Stores like Target, HomeGoods, and At Home offer an amazing selection of lights for great prices. Try switching it up! Go for table lamps in the living area, but a tall lamp in the bedroom or office. You can also add wall lights for a modern look.

Decorative Pillows

The best way to spruce up a couch, chair or bed? Add beautiful pillows! If your walls are bare and your furniture is neutral-colored, bright pillows with patterns and colors can add the splash of color your place needs. Mix and match the pillows, but always stay within the same theme of colors.

Add Some Curtains

Curtains are a great way to give your apartment some life! You don’t have to live with the plain blinds that come in most places. But we’re not going to lie, curtains can be expensive. That’s why we are sharing this great resource for making your own curtains! Better Homes and Gardens has plenty of curtain inspiration that require little cash.

Patterned Rugs

Interior Designer Amber Lewis says “area rugs are a great way to help define different areas within a space as well as add a pop of color, pattern and texture.” We couldn’t agree more. A patterned rug can catch the eye much better than standard carpet or wood floor. Since most apartments charge for damaged carpets, an area rug serves a dual purpose!

Personalized Pictures

The easiest décor item of all is pictures of you. You with your family, you with your friends, and you with your loved ones. Pictures share with your guests the great memories you’ve accrued throughout your life. You can find stylish picture frames from stores like Ross, Kohl’s and TJ Maxx. You can also make your own frames!

Sprucing up your living space doesn’t have to cost a fortune! A few simple items can transform your place into an eye-appealing destination. What décor items do you have in your apartment or home? 1. I loved decorating my apartment, but I was right out of college and definitely on a budget. When I get my next house, I will definitely incorporate these items!
