We are so excited to share our third Client Success Story! Remember reading how Patricia Met Her Goal and Andrea paid off her credit card? Well, today we’re talking about how Candice took control of her spending!
Client Goal: Control spending and allocate income responsibly
Client Start Date: July 15, 2016
Client Target Date: October 16, 2016
Candice's Story (as told by the CGS Financial Consultant):
Candice first reached out for her consultation after hearing positive feedback from another client, Daniella. Candice's situation was a little different than most of my clients. Outside of a few student loans, she had no credit card debt and she had a significant savings amount. However, what Candice also had was a problem controlling her spending. When you make good money and have your required expenses covered, it's easy to think that nothing further is required.
We started Candice off on a budget plan that cut her spending on things like dining out, work lunches, shopping, and entertainment back by $350 each month. Candice was definitely concerned about this. There had never been anyone to tell her she needed to watch her spending in the past, and now she needs to cut back the things she enjoyed? Candice was hesitant, but decided to give it a shot. To make sure she stayed on track with her budget and spending, we used a tracking mechanism to monitor her spending on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. This came in handy on our weekly calls. Any spending areas outside of the budget were addressed on a case by case basis.
Since Candice made good money, had a savings and didn't have debts, the next step was to allocate the income she made appropriately. Before working with CGS, Candice would not budget for large purchases that came up. She would charge them to her card when they came up and just take the hit. Instead, we thought through those purchases and budgeted for them ahead of time. If a $2000 expense was coming up in the next 6 months, we would start budgeting $200 a month to help cover that cost when it came up. Candice set up a new savings account specifically for those upcoming expenses. Keeping the extra savings outside of her normal checking account allowed that savings to grow without notice or temptation.
When our services came to an end, Candice found that she actually can control her spending! She knows when something is truly out of budget in the short term and can make the conscious decision to live without it. She also knows the importance of tracking her spending to always have a leg up on where she stands with her budget.
Candice shows that even if you make good money, having proper budgeting and tracking skills in place can go a long way! If you are struggling financially, don’t be afraid to seek help!
